In The Zone

I am going to try and get back into blogging a little more to keep everyone up-to-date with my progress. Here is what I've been up to:

For the last week, I have been deeply immersed in writing the third book in the “Souls” series, and it has been the easiest one, by far. The words have flowed, almost effortlessly, like the book is writing itself. It doesn’t feel forced at all. In fact, it truly feels like the characters are guiding my hand in telling this final story. I guess you could say I’ve been “in the zone”.

If I had to admit to any blockages or hiccups at all, it would be when it came time for the main character to experience her next past life for the first time. A part of me was really dreading writing that part.

I listened to some music, scrolled social media, and tried to figure out what was causing my delay. My music tastes really ran the gamut that night. I started with Matchbox 20 and ended up listening to 80’s hair bands. I then had a chat with a friend and told him how I was feeling. He has read both of my books, which is very unlike him, but I know he did it to support me. I told him I didn’t quite know what a feat I was choosing when I decided to write books that essentially have two stories to tell. It can be quite daunting at times. My friend then re-assured me that I transition between the stories well and that they never become monotonous or boring, so my timing is also good.

After that pep-talk, I went back to writing and managed to introduce Jensen’s new past life. I became extremely excited to continue telling this particular story. Although I don’t have every single event or conversation planned or outlined, I have full confidence that my characters will take over and tell their story the way they want it told. And that excites me even more, to see where they take ME this time around.

Thanks for stopping by!

Shonna
